EMRICK, Allan Ray (Age 46) - died as the result of injuries from a horse riding accident, on June 4, 2005. He was born at Toppenish, Washington, on August 16, 1958.

The family later moved to Ione, WA, where he graduated from Selkirk High School in 1976. One year later he married his high school sweetheart, Jane Adams. Together they traveled to Alaska for 10 years of adventurous living, and to Puyallup, WA for four years, before returning to Ione in 1990.

They had two children who were the greatest joys of his life. For 14 years, Allan served his community and its children as a 4-H horse leader. He also demonstrated his love for kids and athletics as a coach of T-ball, softball, AAU basketball, and most recently as an assistant coach for Selkirk Rangers Boys Basketball, who just made two consecutive appearances at the State 'B' tournament.

For the past 15 years, Allan has been a dedicated employee of Pend Oreille County Public Utility District, most recently working as Community Network Systems Specialist. In 2002, he received the state PUD Associating's prestigious William T. Elmgren Public Service Award, given to a Washington State public utility employee who has made outstanding contributions to his utility and community. Not many people find their passion in life, but Allan did. His passion was horses. He spent many, many happy hours training both horses and riders. Friends and family affectionately called him a 'horse whisperer'.

He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Jane; daughter, Keely Marie and son, Paul Allan, all of the home; his mother, Bernice Emrick; siblings, Dianne Emrick, Deena (and Steve) Culver, Steven (and Dana) Emrick; several nieces and nephews and their families and a special uncle, Judson Emrick, Colorado. He is also survived by in- laws, Bonnie and Gene Adams; sisters-in-law, Cyn-thia (and Don) Brocha, Laurie Lyons, and Sarah Quintana; and brother-in-law, Mark (and Julie) Adams. Allan was preceded in death by his father, Marion E. Emrick. A Memorial Service will be held at
2 pm, Friday, June 10th, at the Selkirk High School Gymnasium. SHERMAN-KNAPP FUNERAL HOME of NEWPORT, WA is in charge of arrangements. The family suggests memorial contributions in Allan's name to the Selkirk High School.
